Ready, set, go!!

If you are job-hunting, here are a few helpful tips to take into consideration as you embark on your journey:

1 - Always prepare for the interview: you'll want to do some research on the company you are interviewing with. Go to their website, find out exactly what they do and when they were established, how many employees they have globally. If they are publicly traded, look up their stock symbol and see how its doing - and how it has been doing over the past year. You might want to memorize or jot down the current stock price.

2 - Always dress professionally: I would recommend the classic navy suit, but the next best thing would be a dark suit and dark shoes. Men, even if you don't wear a suit, be sure to wear a tie. Also, make sure that your shoes are polished and in good condition, and that they don't have any scuff marks.

3 - Do not wear perfum or cologne. Sometimes, little things can have a lasting affect on people. If one of your interviewers has a sensative nose, even if they don't mean to, psychologically the smell of your fragrance may have a negative impact on them, and a lasting affect that could come to mind as he/she is contemplating which candidate he or she could best work with on a day-to-day basis.

4 - Always make eye contact when you are speaking with the interviewer or when they are speaking to you. Also, remember to shake hands firmly upon meeting. Be sure not to give them the limp handshake.

5 - Write down some questions to ask the interviewer. You always want to have questions of your own. They can be about the hiring manager's management style, about the structure of the department, or about the details of the job.

6 - Always send a thank you note (email is acceptable as well). If the interviewer does not give you a business card, you may want to verify the spelling of his/her name and address or email address, to ensure that your thank you note makes it to its destination.

7 - Lastly, spend some time the night before the interview envisioning the interview ending on a positive note. There is lots of power in positive thinking and in envisioning your goals.
